Being scientists in 1LoW

Last week, we finished up our Unit of Study, "Why is it so?"

We had a great time figuring out how things work. We learnt that to be a good scientist, you must first have a question that you want an answer to.

Then, you have to make a hypothesis (what you think will happen). After that, do an experiment to test your hypothesis.

You need to observe carefully and write down what you see (your results). At the end, you have to make a conclusion and tell everyone what you learned.

We watched a video about things that might float or sink, and had to make a hypothesis. We were surprised to find that a coconut would float, and a lime would sink! Mrs Wark brought along a coconut and a lime so we could see inside.

We went on a Sound Walk around the school, and were VERY surprised by the sounds we could hear: trucks, cars, construction, birds, the gamelan, kids talking. 

Lots of us tried our own experiments at home. We had lots of 1LoW people come along and share what they had wondered, their hypothesis, and their results!

We did many experiments at school, too! We explored how light and sound are made, and how they can be changed. 

Each time we did these experiments, we followed the scientific process.

We loved being scientists!
